God is that friend

Something that has been on my mind a lot lately, is prayer. I was watching a show the other day, and something a character said caught my attention. It was something you hear almost everyday, so it was odd that it was then that I started actually thinking about it. To be honest, I can't remember the exact words the person said, but it was something like, "All you can do is pray." and my mom said something like, "That's not the only thing. Prayer is so powerful!" That's so true. Prayer shouldn't just be, "Oh, that's the only thing we can do." It should be, "Prayer is the only thing we have to do." 

     Imagine that you have a friend who can control death and life. You have a son who is dying. All you have to do is ask your friend to save him.
Just go talk to your friend. It may be up to him, but it's pretty darn likely that your son will be saved. Now stop imagining it. What changed? That's right. Nothing, because this is the real world. When your son is dying, how is it different talking to God, than it is a friend? Maybe you're thinking, It's not different. I don't see what you're talking about, Jasmine. Okay, but that may be how it is for you, but I know that for others, and many times for myself, it is difficult to pray because they think it's very unlikely that God will answer their prayer. 

    That's why this has been on my mind a lot. Because I just realized that I need to keep in this mindset that God is that friend. He will hear my prayer. I can talk to Him whenever I want. It's the same as talking to my parents. I ask my parents if I can go to the movies, but it's up to them to say "yes" or "no". Same with God, but for Him, things are usually a little more serious than going to the movies. 

    Prayer really is the most powerful thing in the world. It really can move mountains if that's in God's will.
