As Christians, we know that going to heaven is not a result of the good deeds you do, but that you believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ. The good things we do are not because we are trying to work our way to heaven. So why do we do good things? It should be because it is a way to say THANK YOU to the Lord for all that he has done. "Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God." (-Unknown)
Often times, I start thinking that I have to be a good person and do good deeds or else God is going to be angry at me, and I won't be pleasing to Him. Of course, we should want to please Him and should please Him, but it's not that we have to please Him.
I was reading a book a while ago that was talking about different religions, and it said that although people may seem like their doing it for God, they are really only doing it because they hope God will be pleased enough to send them to Heaven. They think they are being unselfish, but really they are only thinking about what they will get out of it. Being unselfish on the outside doesn't mean you aren't being selfish in the inside. And God will know!
Just make sure you are doing all things for God. Not because you have to, but because it's one of the best ways to say THANK YOU. That's really what our life should be all about - saying THANK YOU to God in our actions, words, ways we treat other people, and impressions we make.

Good reminder to examine our intentions. Isn't it amazing how the LORD God Almighty who doesn't need anything from us graciously invites us to participate in bringing glory to Himself by doing good works He's prepared beforehand for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10)!? [Jonathan]
