James 1:27

"...refuse to let the world corrupt you." -James 1:27

     Often times, without realizing it, the people around you and the characters you see can easily "corrupt" you. You may find yourself acting in the ways they do, and not always for the better. But of course, there are many people who can encourage you to be a better person! Those are the people you will want to be around. 

      Just be careful who you're spending most of your time with. I was reading a book a while ago, and one of the stories the author told was of him when he was a lot younger. If I'm remembering right, he joined a baseball team, and without realizing it, he was becoming more and more like them.
Kind of acting more harsh in the way he talked and acted toward others, but one of his close friends was really kind and took him aside and told him what the friend saw happening. The guy - the author - was really grateful to his friend because he didn't know that the baseball players were rubbing off on him. He was completely oblivious to the whole situation. Now I'm totally not saying that all baseball players are like those ones, and neither was the author. But just those particular ones the author was talking about. 

    Basically we just need to be careful with who we chose to hang out with, because we really may be changing in a bad way and not realize it at all! Just trust in God and He will let you know who is right for you. He knows what's best. Obey the Lord's commands, and don't let the world get in the way of your doing what's right, what's good! It may not only be people, but it can also be things as well.
