Oh my! I can hardly believe it's already Christmas Eve! This year has gone by so quickly. I'm a little sad that 2019 is almost over. It has been probably the best year I've had since I can remember.
The other day I was almost in tears, because I was thinking about the incredible things God has done for me. Though I turned against Him, He still loves me, and He chose to die for me in my place. Think about it. God could've decided to ditch us, and let us die with no hope of escaping Hell. He could've wiped us out and started over, like what He did in Noah's days. Instead, He one: decided to honor His promise to Noah of never making that happen again, and two: loved us so much to give us an eternity of second chances knowing that we would use every single one of them up, usually forgetting to apologize.
Can I just say "wow"? Not only was I thinking about what He's done for me, but after all this, He has only asked for one thing. One thing that's not even very difficult: that we would remember Him. If someone who sacrificed everything to save you came up one day, and all he said was, "Please remember me", would you just snort at them and instantly forget? I know I would never forget about them. I'd think about them everyday forever and do all I can to thank them. Really, He just asked that we would remember Him, and we can't even do that? That's the part that almost brought me to tears. He lets us live everyday despising Him and His ways, and still, He loves us so much.
Would you be able to do that? If you sacrificed everything for someone and did everything for them, but still they continued turning on you like you were some kind of enemy, wouldn't it be obvious to just give up? But God will never give up on us.
Christmas is the day when we can remember what God did for us. He knew that we would never stop sinning. He knew because of that, we would have to be punished. He knew that we must be sent to a place, the farthest away from God, because He can never be near sin. But He loved us too. Instead of punishing us who carried the sin, God made His perfect son, Jesus, take those sins and be punished. The best we can do is take a moment to remember the day Jesus came into the world for our helpless sakes. So don't forget what we are celebrating tomorrow. Just as we celebrate the day when more sin enters the world, we should celebrate the day when sin was defeated.
